Richard is impressed by the strong community spirit across the population of Poundbury. He chairs the Town Council’s Policy Committee and Dorset Council’s Audit Committee.

Richard has been an active member of a group that looks at reducing the council's carbon footprint and has been the town Mayor four times. Additionally, Richard takes a keen interest in 'looked after children' and advocates for fostering, adoption, and care leavers.

Currently, he is also serving as the Chair of the Dorchester Youth and Community Centre.
