Bridport one step closer to 20mph

Dorset Council have announced that Bridport’s application for 20mph speed limits through the town has reached the next stage.
Lib Dem-run Bridport Town Council put in the application last year. Since then, Lib Dem councillors have lobbied tirelessly for Dorset Council to take action to make our streets safer.
The announcement means that a consultation for local residents will soon begin.
Lib Dem Town and Dorset Councillor Sarah Williams said: “We’re pleased to see that Dorset Council has progressed our application for a 20mph zone through the Town.”
The Lib Dems have pushed Dorset Council for action on 20mph.
“My Lib Dem colleagues and I on both the Town and Dorset Counci have been calling for this for a long time. We are committed to making our streets safer.”
“When the consulation opens, please make sure you have your say.”
We are runnning a campaign calling on Conservative-run Dorset Council to make the process of getting 20mph zones, where people want them, easier.

Twenty is Plenty for Dorset
We are calling on Dorset Council to streamline the current approach to 20mph speed limits in residential areas. The current process is too lengthy and bureaucratic, and simply represents another obstacle to keeping people safe. Reducing the speed limit to 20mph has several proven benefits. It reduces emissions by 25%, noise pollution by 50%, and fatal accidents by 20%, making our towns and villages safer and cleaner places to live. Areas that want 20mph zones should be able to get them, and not have to jump through hoops. Liberal Democrats want to change the system to put local people in control of their speed limits.
