Lib Dems Blast Parking Charges

8 Aug 2023

Lib Dem Councillors have criticsed Conservative- run Dorset Council’s decision to again hike car parking charges.

The latest hike comes despite the fact that several Dorset Council-owned car parks are not in a good enough condition.

As a result of the latest hike, all-day parking for a car in West Bay now costs £15 (pictured). Two years ago, this figure was just £2.

Cllr Dave Bolwell said: “We all know that Dorset Council is trying to make up lost funds, thanks to more than a decade of brutal Conservative cuts. But to pass this cost onto local communities is unacceptable. Increased fees are hurting locals as well as our future tourism industry. The knock-on effect will be that businesses will suffer.

“Our local economy will be damaged by Conservative price hikes.”
