The Liberal Democrats have launched the most extensive manifesto consultation ever undertaken by a British political party. Every party member can log on to a special website enabling them to contribute to the creation of the manifesto ahead of a possible snap election in the autumn. For the next election the party will produce a web-based interactive manifesto, using audio-visual communications as its centrepiece rather than the written word.

Well, the recent uninformed debate on how this Council uses water - driven by the Conservatives and paddled along with by Labour has certainly got people talking. As Finance Portfolio Holder I have strived to find the best value for money solutions to how this Council spend their money. Indeed under the Liberal Democrats this Council is set to have its lowest Council Tax increase for over a decade. I was surprised at the Conservative Groups attempt to court publicity in this way. The Labour Party say they'd do the same - but why did they not do this last year when they had power?
Bedford Borough Liberal Democrats have reacted with astonishment to the Council's plans to spend £1.2 million on a Ground Source Heat Pump at a private development in Bedford Town Centre rather than on energy efficiency improvements at council buildings or affordable rented housing.

The sale of Shepway Council land in Weymouth Road, Cheriton next to the Bowls Club has been delayed after massive local opposition. The Council are proposing to sell the land - currently a green space and part of Cheriton Rec - for a housing development of up to 6 houses.
