A new role has been created at Cornwall's largest hospital to support patients with learning disabilities. The Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro says it has realised there is a need to improve care for these patients.

Equality scheme targets 'missed'

A disability rights group has accused Powys Council of ignoring problems affecting people with mobility problems. Brecknock Access Group claimed the council's disability equality scheme (DES) committee had not met for a year and targets had not been hit. It has written to councillors and other politicians in south Powys to complain about this and other issues.

Elderly carers launch help centre

Elderly carers in Oxfordshire are looking after themselves with a self-support centre for those with family who have learning disabilities. Run by volunteers, it provides services and information packs to keep carers from becoming isolated. They also have access to others at meetings held every six to eight weeks at various day centres. The group, which calls itself Older Carers Floating Support, aims to set up home-visiting services in the future.
