Local Liberal Democrats are campaigning against cuts to the local health services. They have launched a petition and are distributing a Health Survey right across Chelmsford. "We want to give local people a chance to have their say on local health services and health policy in general," said Parliamentary Candidate Stephen Robinson.
Britain's first written constitution should be drafted by a convention whose membership has been partly chosen by random lot, the Liberal Democrats proposed today. Half of those involved should be members of the public, with the others drawn from parliament, and the final draft subject to a national referendum.
The Conservative Party were plunged into further turmoil this week as former Deputy Leader Michael Ancram added fuel to the debate about the direction of the party by urging David Cameron to focus on Thatcherite values. Rochdale MP Paul Rowen has welcomed Rochdale Liberal Democrat's newest recruit, former Rochdale UK Youth Member of Parliament Atifa Shah. Ms Shah, 20 is currently studying management and computing at Manchester University and has worked with Mr Rowen and other MP's during her time as the Youth Member of Parliament on a number of issues including the campaign for new six form college in Rochdale.
At last night's Council meeting, Liberal Democrat Councillor Julia Roberts asked that if, when the discussion on funding for a new hospital took place, consideration would be given to ensuring that the telephone number would not be a premium rate telephone number, like the new 0844 one for the University of North Tees and Hartlepool.
The new zebra crossing on Darlington Back Lane has been installed at last, and local Councillors Suzanne Fletcher and Julia Roberts are delighted. The possibility of it going ahead was in the balance in May this year as there was not enough funding for all of the road safety schemes planned. Julia Roberts suggested that if we put £5,400 of the ward Environmental improvement budget into the project, and a neighbouring ward did too, then it would be possible. Julia said
