Beaumont Slams Broadmeadow Care home Fiasco
Park Ward Lib Dem Cllr Lynne Beaumont has slammed the County Council's decision to close Broadmeadow Care Home and move its vulnerable residents. Broadmeadow will be demolished to make way for an entrance and car park for the new Academy.

Blair's crime measures speech is an admission of failure
Responding to Tony Blair's speech on crime, Liberal Democrat Shadow Home Secretary, Nick Clegg MP said "This is clearly an admission of failure by the Prime Minister. It is striking that after 10 years in power, the gap between his rhetoric and reality is wider than ever. It is a continuing failure of government policy that is letting people down, not some nebulous 'liberal establishment' or an ill-defined need to 'rebalance' the system. We have prisons bursting at the seams, a judiciary at loggerheads with the Government, a probation service on its knees, falling conviction rates for serious crimes, one of the highest rates of reoffending in Western Europe, and a Home Office in a state of institutional meltdown."

Charles Kennedy not ruling out his return
Charles Kennedy refused to rule out returning as Liberal Democrat leader at some point in the future. Mr Kennedy, who quit as leader in January, was asked on BBC One's Question Time whether there was any chance he might lead the party again. He replied: "Who knows? The one thing we can all be sure about in politics is you are as well to expect the unexpected." But Mr Kennedy urged people not to misconstrue his remarks. "I don't want a headline saying 'Kennedy suggests this or implies that'," he said.

Garden grabbing development must stop says West Mids Lib Dem MP
Liberal Democrat MP for Solihull, Lorely Burt, renewed her call for an urgent revision of government planning guidance to stop 'garden grabbing' development following an opposition debate yesterday on brownfield development. Mrs Burt, whose Local Government and Planning (Parkland and Windfall Development) Bill receives its second reading in the Commons in October, said that local councils and communities must be given back control of planning decisions affecting their own area.
