Liberal Democrats propose amendment to secure democracy

Today Liberal Democrats on Suffolk County Council have proposed an amendment to the paper which asks them to rubber stamp previously top secret Tory plans to dramatically alter the way the county council delivers its services. The amendment calls for a set of fully costed proposals to come before full council, rather than just the Cabinet as is currently suggested in the paper.

Barwell Community Centre

The proposed Community Centre to replace the Cedars will be built on land to the rear of Barwell Junior School. The centre, if built, has the potential to address some of our concerns here in Barwell. It will contain a library, sport facilities, meeting rooms and a youth facility. However, Sandra Francks has recently written to officers at County Council to raise concerns over its size, running costs and funding. A management Committee is to be formed to run the new facility.

Barwell Flooding Problems

Cllr Sandra Francks received calls from residents concerned when their properties flooded in recent storms, some severe. She wrote to Environmental Health at HBBC and requested their assistance on behalf of residents in Hinckley Road and Mill Street Barwell. To address this, Hinckley and Bosworth Council, Severn Trent Water,the Environmental Agency and County Council Highways have resolved to
