SATs tests for 14 year olds to be scrapped

Commenting on Ed Balls' announcement that the Government is to scrap SATs for 14-year-olds, Liberal Democrat Prospective Parliamentary Candidate Jill Wareham said: "I welcome the Government's complete U-turn. The SATs tests taken by 14-year-olds are not only a waste of time but have been highly unreliable over the last few years."

Councillor Greg Couzens, Rochdale Council Cabinet Member for Finance, sought to ease anxiety over the collapse of Icelandic banks and the precarious state of British banks and the potential repercussions for Rochdale Council. Councillor Couzens confirmed to the Council Chamber that the Council did not have any money invested with Icelandic banks.

Recycling Rates Doubled in Just TWO Years

Rochdale's recycling rates have more than doubled across the borough thanks to resident's efforts. In a Lib Dem Notice of Motion that was presented at the recent council meeting, it was revealed that recycling had shot up from 16.8% in 2006/2007 to its current rate of 35% in just two years.
