Health Review a Step Forward Say Cornish MPs

Cornwall's Liberal Democrat MPs have welcomed the publication of the Strategic Review of Health Provision for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly as a "step forward" for the NHS in the county. The report, which recognises many of the concerns raised by MPs and the Cornish public over recent months, commits the Primary Care Trust to tackling health inequalities in the County and also proposes to put a new focus on providing healthcare closer to home.

Winter Fuel Payment Motion

Spinney Hill Lib Dem Councillor, Mussa Saleh, placed a motion forward at the last full council meeting to ask the authority is to write to Tony Blair asking for the benefit of winter fuel payments to be increased.

Ex-MP battles NHS over eye drug

A former Halifax MP says she may go to the High Court to force the NHS to provide a drug which she says could help her failing sight. Alice Mahon, 69, lost most of the sight in one eye due to age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and expects to lose it in the other.

Councils 'failing disabled young'

Thousands of severely disabled young people are being let down by local authorities who fail to plan care for them as adults, a report has said. The Commission for Social Care Inspection is calling for urgent action to ensure disabled children continue to get the help they need into adulthood.
