Wolverhampton South West Branch members tonight attended a 'Focus On A Goat' social event hosted by branch chairman Robin Lawrence. The event, as well as being a social event for the Liberal Democrats also was partly a fund-raiser for Oxfam. Enough was raised to buy a goat and to have a teacher trained.
Epsom & Ewell Lib Dem Prospective Parliamentary Candidate Jonathan Lees has discovered that there are likely to be in the region of over 870 households in Epsom & Ewell eligible for the new Pension Credit but not receiving it. Pension Credit is an entitlement for people living in Great Britain aged 60 or over. It should guarantee everyone an income of at least £105.45 for single pensioners and £160.95 a week for pensioner couples.

A Unite/Mori student survey carried out in January 2004 on voting intentions gives the Lib Dems a leading share of 34%, with Labour on 28% and the Tories third on 19%. Antony Wood, Local Councillor and Prospective Parliamentary Candidate, addressed a group of 150 Lower Sixth form students at Charter's School in Ascot, on Monday, discussing the role of elections and politics in public life. Speaking as part of the student's General Studies programme Mr. Wood explained the key points of our electoral system. Being the only Prospective Candidate who is also a Borough Councillor he was also uniquely qualified to contrast the different responsibilities of the nation's parliament and its local councils which it is vital to understand as students move towards becoming voters themselves.
