Driving a car is a slow form of transport if you are trying to get around Chelmsford, according to a transport race staged last Friday. It was 'In Town Without My Car' day and a bus, a car, cyclists and a pedestrian competed to see who would be first to get to the steps of county hall in Chelmsford's town centre from the Moulsham Lodge neighbourhood.
Shepway District Council have forced through a plan to sell land in Weymouth Road for a housing development against the wishes of 97.5% of local residents and Folkestone Town Council.

The first fringe event was "The EU Constitution - what next?" with Andrew Duff MEP and Michael Moore MP, followed by "Can the EU switch off climate change?" with Chris Davies MEP, Chris Huhne MP and Fiona Harvey (FT environment correspondent). The third event was "Question Time on the EU" with Paddy Ashdown, HE The Turkish Ambassador, Diana Wallis MEP and Steve Richards (political correspondent with The Independent). Bedford Liberal Democrats have reacted with concern after a meeting of the Bedfordshire NHS Joint Scrutiny Committee on Friday did nothing to reassure local residents facing the devastating impact of further cuts to local services.
