MPs urge cut in dementia drug use

MPs have urged the government to stop the "dangerous over-prescribing" of anti-psychotic drugs to people in care homes with dementia. The All Party Parliamentary Group on Dementia said the drugs should only be used as a last resort.

10p Tax rate - dozens of Labour MPs set to make 'average constituent' pay more

More than 50 Labour MPs will make their average constituent pay more income tax if they vote to double the 10p tax rate today, Liberal Democrat research shows. In total there are 58 constituencies where the average constituent would lose out by the abolition of the 10p tax rate, with 51 of them held by Labour MPs. MPs will debate the decision to scrap the lowest, 10p tax band later amid concerns that despite the promise of concessions, many low earners will still lose out.

On 1st April 2008, people who rent garages from Chelmer Housing Partnership (CHP) were presented with a new rental rate of £10 per week plus vat. This represents an astonishing increase of £3 a week plus vat - a 43% rise.

OFT right to tackle supermarket dodgy dealing

The Office of Fair Trading (OFT) has alleged tobacco firms and supermarkets have been engaged in unlawful practices linked to retail prices for tobacco. The OFT names 11 retailers, including Asda, Sainsbury and Tesco, and tobacco firms Imperial Tobacco and Gallaher. One allegation is that retailers and tobacco groups arranged to swap information on future pricing.
