Statistics published by the council this week show that the Lib Dem run council has reduced its water usage by around 5% - more than 21,000 cubic metres of water.

ID card plan lacks clarity say MPs
The House of Commons Science and Technology Committee chaired by Liberal Democrat MP Phil Willis says that Government plans to introduce ID cards are "inconsistent" and "lacking clarity". The MPs were sceptical about the estimated costs of the scheme, which Tony Blair has called "a major plank" of Labour's next election manifesto. They said there was public confusion about ID cards because there had not been enough details about them. Mr Willis said there was "not the level of confidence in this scheme that could be expected at this stage". He said: "Despite their vested interests in the scheme, industrial representatives are speaking openly about their concerns regarding the identity cards programme - this should set alarm bells in the Home Office ringing."

LibDem Convener welcomes Broughty broadcasting to youth audience
Dundee Liberal Democrats' local party Convener, Raymond Lawrie, today (Friday 4th August) welcomed news that next Monday (7th August) Nickelodeon, the cable and satellite TV channel for young people, will be broadcasting their highly successful "Nickelodeon Summer Sizzle" event - live from Broughty Ferry.

Dundee LibDems support "Dundee's For Peace"
Dundee Liberal Democrats have today (Friday 4th August) given their support to the "Dundee's For Peace" event, scheduled to begin tomorrow at 11am and finish at 3pm. It will comprise stalls by major campaign organisations, trade unions, activists, faith groups, NGOs etc.

Brian Simpson, Councillor for Eastfield on both the Scarborough Borough Council and North Yorkshire County Council has left the Labour Party and defected to the Liberal Democrats.

New Axe the Tax petition launched
Just a few months ago, our Council Tax bills landed on the mat. For many, the arrival of this bill was most unwelcome. Of course nobody likes paying tax, but the Council Tax, because it has no link with people's ability to pay is the most unfair and the most unpopular.
