Local MP Tim Farron has begun a consultation with the adult education centres in Westmorland and Lonsdale, with the aim of finding out how funding cuts made by the Learning and Skills Council have affected them. It has now been a year since the introduction of changes in LSC funding that led to a reduction in support for many adult education courses.
At today's Full Council meeting of Suffolk County Council, Councillors debated a Liberal Democrat motion which called for the county council to protect the rights of local people to question the need for and locality of nuclear power stations. This is the same right that our community enjoys with regard to any other large-scale development. The Scottish Parliament yesterday overwhelmingly backed a new law giving same-sex couples the legal right to adopt children. The Adoption and Children (Scotland) Bill is designed to reverse the decline in numbers offering to adopt and drew huge cross-party support. An amendment from SNP member Roseanna Cunningham to exempt same-sex couples was defeated by 98 votes to 11.
